You may have asked yourself, how will your drinking habits affect your muscle-building process? Is it harmful to have a few beers after a long day at work with your friends on hot Friday night? Is it that bad ? Can I get lean and drink alcohol at the same time ?

Studies show that men prefer drinking a glass or two of cold beer instead of cheating on their diet with junk-food. While some find it hard to lose weight, for others saying goodbye to their good friend the alcohol is the real challenge.

So, what is the answer? Is it good or bad and how does it affect our muscle gains ?

Before jumping to any conclusions, lets take a look at what we need to know about alcohol.

Alcohol and Testosterone
As you most likely know, testosterone is a huge hormone that is associated with building muscle. It is the reason why men have far more muscle mass than females (since we have more testosterone flowing trough our bodies).

When you consume alcohol, a substance is produced in the liver that is destructive to the release of testosterone. This substance decreases the concentration of testosterone, resulting in lower mass and definition of the muscle. So, the next time you take a cold beverage with you, think about the hard work you put in at the gym going to waste.

Alcohol and growth hormones
The consumption of alcohol effects the release of growth hormone. Growth hormone is a substance in the human body that plays a really important role when it comes to building muscle as well as promoting optimal bone growth. When the flow of this hormone is low, you are not going to get the same amount of muscle gains as you would when it’s at an optimal level

An interesting fact is that growth hormone is released the most at the early hours of your sleep.

Alcohol and dehydration
Another issue that we have to watch out from is dehydration. If you drink a cold beer instead of water or another non-alcoholic beverage, your water balance will be disrupted thus leading to dehydration.

Dehydration has a lot of negative effects on our body. The feeling of fatigue, low physical performance, feeling of hunger, slower metabolism, toxins in the body. They all affect your muscle-building process.

Alcohol and body fat
The final issue of alcohol is that it contains calories, empty calories, calories without any value. Those kinds of calories are store directly as fat.

Seven calories per gram, considering the fact that a normal male drinks up two or three beers.

Conclusion
Removing alcohol from your diet, as hard as it may seem, is going to have a huge impact on your muscle-building and fat loss. Destroying the craving for a cold beer is going to be hard, I know, but give it a try.

  1. As the name suggests, natural bodybuilding is naturally
to build one’s body. Furthermore eating very often holds the nitrogen balance of the body high so the body doesn’t
eat away on its own muscle reserves. How to build muscle fast for men is through training in
    the gym or field.
